This traditional Bikram pose series does not include inversion poses - such as headstands - typically found in yoga classes because it is difficult for beginners to do them safely. Bikram was initially sent to Japan in the early 1970s to share the benefits of this yoga sequence and shortly thereafter he went to America where the original hot yoga class we know today was established. Ghosh mentored a number of students including Buddha Bose and Bikram Choudhury. The practice was developed in Calcutta, India between the 1930s and 1960s by Bishnu Ghosh, younger brother of Paramahansa Yogananda. Bikram Yoga is a set sequence of 26 Hatha Yoga postures and two breathing exercises in a heated room for 90 minutes ideal for beginners and seasoned practitioners alike.
